Nobody walks into a laser purchase with a perfect answer. You might be a medspa owner trying to decide between renting and buying a Candela laser machine. Look at the system's shot count, service history, and calibration records. Laser technology is evolving. What was best practice in 2020 may not apply in 2025. Fiber lasers, MOPA sources, and better cooling systems have changed what we think of as normal maintenance. But some fundamentals haven't changed: verify the laser's output with a power meter, inspect calibration records, ask for samples, and never ignore safety engineering.
Granted, this approach takes more upfront work. But it saves time later. To be fair, every shop has different constraints. A rental might be the perfect low-risk way to enter a new market. A second CO2 laser might be smarter than a MOPA if your clients only order wood products. The goal isn't to buy the most impressive laser. It's to choose the one that passes inspection for your specific work.
Before you commit, get the spec in writing. You'll be glad you did.
